You so do want your PhD. This should be even more evident after the repair of an Open Source project. It has to make you feel good that you saw something that others didn't.
Keep going and see the ripened fruits of all of your work.
I'm a graduate student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of California, Davis, since Sept 2002. I'm currently working in the RUBINet research group, on wireless ad-hoc networking and delay-tolerant networking.
